Can I get the volume control graphic to go away quicker on my HP?

I just got an HP Pavilion dv6000, running Windows Vista. Whenever I use the quicktouch volume-control buttons (ie. the dedicated volume buttons on my keyboard), a large graphic appears on the display and stays there for about 5 seconds.

Is there anyway to make the graphic smaller or make it go away more quickly? It's getting annoying!

According to this, you can disable the display completely.
