Was Elvis Presley ever presented with a giant cheque [check]? If he was, what were the circumstances?

Response by poster: I should add, I mean one of those cheques that are comedically large in physical size not in a monetary sense.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but a cursory turn through a Google image search finds nothing. Cursory I say. But—and it's a bold but—seeing as how the only point of giving someone a gargantuan check is to create a photo op, and Elvis was himself a walking photo op even without giant check in hand, and knowing how people continue to love The King... I would expect that if it had happened there would have been a photo taken, and if there were a photo taken, (if it still existed) it would be on the internet, and if it were on the internet, Google would know about it. And it doesn't seem to.

That's an awful lot of assumptions, of course, and it's certainly not proof that such an event didn't take place. But, do you have reason to believe that Elvis did in fact receive a giant check?

Just a datapoint that this famous picture is posed the same as if Elvis was receiving a giant check.

Do Elvis impersonators count?

I had a scan on Google using my best Google-fu, but found nothing. Perhaps Elvis Photos or this website which purports to have over 1000 pictures of Elvis might be worth checking out.

Also, seconding Johnnykid. Why?

Response by poster: A manager in New Zealand in the 60s who upon hearing about Elvis Presley and his giant cheque decided that he would present his star - The New Zealand Elvis, Johnny Devlin, with a giant cheque too. He did so for a photo shoot - giving him a 2000 pound cheque - after the photographers left he took the cheque back off his star and ripped it up. I'm just attempting some fact checking but not getting so far.

Counter-mumkin: I'm going to say it probably happened. There's no way that all the Elvis photos are on the Internet--quite a few of them are in newspaper morgues, for starters. More in copyrighted, never-scanned books. In a pre-digital-photography era, there are photos of Elvis spread all over the world, and a lot of them, probably the vast majority, have never been indexed or archived. So, that's why, if it happened, the photo might not be on the Internet.

But did it happen? Well, sure, why not? It's not a unicorn, it's just a novelty check. Over several decades of being Elvis, people gave him thousands of checks. They gave him a lot of all-kinds-of-crap, as a trip to Graceland will attest. So, like I said, I don't have any proof--but it seems fairly likely.

At Graceland, there's a picture of Elvis giving a check to a charity. The photo is very large, but I'm not sure if the check is oversized or not.
