Virgle was hilarious, and arbroath had a few stories, but there must be more... remember /.'s amazing 'zomg pon1es'?

ThinkGeek still has up their April Fools front page. Past ones here. Wikipedia has a list of pranks.

Effigy2000 linked to this a couple of days ago which seemed to be a fairly nice compendium.

Well, mine wasn't very good. And it apparently offended the butt of the joke enough that I was asked to take it down.

The best and also cruelest was that of Flickr. But the target audience of this joke was small.

Before Flickr, there was GNE, the GameNeverEnding.

On April 1st, the game came back to life. A couple developers from flickr ported the code and restored the old and beloved online game. Word got out and a mysterious email was planted.

All the old GNEers showed up. Waxy.org wrote about this too.

This morning, on April 3rd, they shut it back down.

The GNE is sleeping.

Vacapinta, that's messed up. I was a really early user of GNE's alpha/beta & I had no idea about this. And I missed it! That sucks.

I fooled everyone visiting my blog with this language one. I wanted to publicize it more widely but was slightly afraid of a libel suit from Merriam-Webster.

I enjoyed the one thought up by randall munroe. When you went to questionablecontent.net to see the latest comic, you got dinosaur comic. Going to the dinosaur comic (qwantz.com) got you XKCD and to finish the circle, going to XKCD got you questionablecontent.net.

personally i didn't care for google's "joke".

For Javascript geeks: John Resig, the guy behind jQuery posted Classy Query which makes jQuery big, bloated and enterprise ready. "Frequently it was found that the concise method names of jQuery provided too much confusion to developers just getting started with the library."

Bringing back GNE transcended April Fool's Day. It was the most fun I've had online in ages.

Woot.com had a woot-off composed entirely Black & Decker 20 watt power backup battery packs. People were angry.

Etsy had a link in the nav bar between "News" and "My Etsy" that said "Waffles." Click on it, and there were...waffles. Photos of them. Under each was a link to "Flag this as not a waffle." Subtle and cute.
