Selling classic car Filter: Can a seller with no history/feedback/seller rating realistically sell a 1978 De Tomaso Longchamp for $25K on Ebay?

My boss, a wealthy executive and occasional classic sportscar collector, is having me list his 1978 De Tomaso Longchamp on Ebay. He bought it about a year ago at an auction for around $25K. His wife got as far as setting up a seller account on Ebay, getting 12 good pictures of the car, (all angles, interior, odometer, engine, etc) before turning the task of listing it over to me. She also told me what reserve price to set.

My question is, are they wasting their time? Are they way more likely to make a little profit on the car by selling it on a different site, or by listing it in some other way offline?

For a car like that, and without an eBay history, something like Hemmings Motor News would probably be more effective, and far less hassle.

I've seen plenty of classic car auctions with little or no bids because of low seller feedback. If it were mine, I'd look for relevant enthusiast forums with classified ad sections--Pantera International Car Club comes up first on Google--and list it there. Lurk for a bit first to figure out the etiquette involved, though, a lot of car sites require an intro post and some may have other newbie rules, but a well-documented and honest For Sale post ought to attract attention.

Also, your MeFi profile doesn't show a location, but if you're in Canada, post an ad on your local Kijiji and Used Canada sites.

Just because you list on eBay doesn't mean you have to sell it there, you have the right to cancel an auction before it finishes. Considering it doesn't take much time or cost to list an item, why not just give it a shot. If I were you, I'd consider as many options as I can manage in order to get the best price possible.
