Question: Can I trick ProTools?

Is there any way to trick ProTools into recognizing the digital ouput from my Alesis Firewire 8?

What I want is for ProTools to have an individual track for each strip on the Alesis. Could I plug the Alesis' into one of the firewire ports on M-Audio's NRV10 and boost the number of tracks ProTools sees on the NRV? Are there any other ways to attempt this other than routing the Alesis through something else?

You can chain firewire devices. I'm not certain if chaining audio devices will cause any additional latency.

No. You can not get the firewire output directly into protools. You will have to go in analog. At least this is the case if you are using the Digi002. I assume it would be the same with your interface as well. The extra Firewire port is for daisy chaining an external hard drive. It is stupid, I know, but this is the way Digidesign do things.

It's true. They generally want you to use their HW. But maybe you'll get lucky trying to fool it. I have not been (I have digi 002).
