NoVA ADD/ADHD Evaluation

Give me your recommendations for a child psychologist who does ADD/ADHD evaluations in Northern Virginia.

After my last question, I've had a conference with my son's teacher and the school's guidance counselor. We've evaluated all our efforts to help him focus on his work over this year and noted that his teacher last year had experienced the same behaviors. I raised the issue of having him evaluated for ADD/ADHD, if for no other reason than to rule it out. They agreed that he really should be evaluated. Apparently, by me raising the issue, I've just circumvented about 15 steps and meetings in their recommended procedure before they could suggest it.

I have a list of child psychologists in my area who work with my insurance. I have a very short list of names from the school. Of course the two don't match. So, I'm wondering who you've worked with for this kind of evaluation in this area. Who would you recommend?

Thanks for all your help!

Where I live our schools will do the testing (takes a long time to get scheduled) or a pediatrician can do it (this is the route we went with our ADHD son - still took 2 months to get an appointment).

I'd recommend psychiatrist A. Bradley Chapman in Alexandria (from personal experience as an ADD-evaluated and treated child and adolescent in the 1980s and 90s). (Called him recently for other reasons and he remembered me well, 15 years after last seeing me.)
