If you know someone at Vanderbilt, you can have them access their off-campus housing listings for you. There are usually a bunch of good rentals listed that aren't advertised elsewhere.

My son had an apt here: Bransford House Apts., Berry Rd.,Nashville, TN 37204 that meets at least part of your requirements. I thought it was pretty good for the price. He was guided there by my brother who has lived in Nashville for a number of years. I think there are several other complexes in the area.

If you are willing to have a roommat and spend 500-600 bucks a month you can do pretty well. You can probably find a room for rent in the Belmont/Vandy/Hillsboro area or Green Hills.

I used to live a mile from Bransford House apartments in Berry Hill that carbolic suggested. that's not a bad spot to be, 5-10 minutes from most of the downtown activity. It's a bit of a gentrifying area but I always felt safe/secure.

Check out Nashville Craigslist for sure. Feel free to mefi-mail me if you see anything interesting and want to know about the area.

Here's Belmont University's list of some off-campus housing options. The site isn't working right now but I remember it being a good resource.

My fiance and I really love the Hermitage area. It's equidistant from many Nashville-area landmarks and attractions, it's right on the beautiful Percy Priest lake, and there are apartments aplenty. It's also only about 10 minutes from downtown, so you can generally stay out of traffic and chaos most of the day but you're not too far away from the metro area.

My fiance lives in The Cove at Priest Lake. It's about $700/mo for a one-bedroom, but it's very nice, clean, and safe, with many amenities. If you're going to live by yourself, I probably wouldn't recommend it just because of the cost, but if you're getting a roommate it's probably a pretty good deal.

I used to rent a house in Green Hills, which was nice enough, but it really felt like the suburbs. If I lived in Nashville again I'd look into renting in East Nashville, or at least try to get closer to Belmont or Hillsboro Village.

Response by poster: nashville craigslist has some decent stuff, which ill look into. i guess im not going to be able to actually see apartments until im there though. so ill just have to email n call for now. i wouldnt mind an efficiency either, since its just me living there and it'd be less space for me to take care of. i appreciate the suggestions thus far, though. thanks a lot. any more would also be really helpful.
