Birthday in NY

I have a birthday coming up and I want to get friends together to do something besides a house party or going to the bars. I've done karaoke for my birthday in the past. Any suggestions? I want to keep it small this year, probably around 10 people and ideally it would be something where one could drink or at least go to the bars later in the evening. Also, looking for something on the night of March 28 or 29.

For my last birthday, we found a licensed bowling alley and went bowling. It was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. Good fun!

Laser tag. I did that one year and it was great fun. The games are usually short (15-20 minutes) but it's enough to energize the group for the rest of the evening.

I second laser tag and bowling, which are two things my group of friends and I do on a regular basis. We always have a blast. But in my opinion, duckpin bowling is much better than regular bowling. It's easier and more fun.

Have a skating party like it's 1980. Rent out the skating rink and go nuts.
