Spa weekend near DC

I need suggestions for a spa weekend for three or four women in June -- preferably less than a 3 hour drive from Washington, DC...

Someone had recommended Coolfont in Berkeley Springs, WV but I understand them to be closed for renovations.
The three of us are not so much the spa treatment types but someplace relaxing with a nice selection of stores and/or outdoor walking possibilities would be welcome. These would be for my friend and myself, both thirty something, and her mother, sixty something.

Last year my wife and I went to Nemacolin Resort outside of Pittsburg. It was about a 3.5 hour drive from DC if I remember correctly. The grounds were large and nice with some good hiking opportunities. Not much in the way of retail. The spa was outstanding. They have about 3 or 4 hotels on the property; I recommend staying at the newest of the hotels as the others were a little worn.

You've described Berkley Springs, WV to a T. The state park offers massage and soaks in the mineral water. For fanciers spa treatments, take a peek here. The town has a variety of crafter/artisan shops and is very walkable. The region is chock full of hiking opportunities.

Consider The Inn at Little Washington, Washington, VA.

The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. The least populated county in Virginia... lots of beautiful, forested, rocky highlands... gorgeous.

Response by poster: Homestead is gorgeous but certainly not 3 hours from the city
