Question: Where are my T4s?

Canadian-TaxFilter: How do I get a hold of my missing T4s?

So I'd like to file my taxes for last year and for another year that I haven't yet filed for. Stubborn ex-employers are "unable" to supply me with copies of my T4s.

I know there is some way for me to get a hold of these, but don't know how. I've checked around on the Revenue Canada website to no avail.

If it helps, I'm in Ottawa.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it's not legal to be "unable" to supply you with last year's T4.
At the office where I work, they are obligated to keep your work info for the last 5 years minimum.

This seems to cover your situation. From the CRA web site:

Getting a prior-year T4 slip
If you need a T4 slip for 2006 or previous years and you could not get one from the employer, call 1-800-959-8281.

One follow-up: If by "last year" you mean 2007, then your employer is obligated to provide you with a T4 by the end of February. If an ex-employer has already given you a T4 for a prior year, then they aren't obligated to give you another one. They have to give CRA a copy of the T4 when they give one to you, though, which is why CRA should be able to provide you with a replacement for prior years.

I called for mine a couple of years ago and they arrived promptly. No problemo.

The year I lost all my T4s I found out that you can just walk in to your local CRA office and request a printout. It's just a single sheet with all the pertinent info from each file T4 and they printed it while I waited.

There may have been a reprint fee, but I am not 100% on that.
