Get on the Bus

I have travel plans! I am thinking of giving up on America again and going to Argentina for a couple weeks then travelling by bus through Uruguay and ultimately ending up in Brazil [Recife area] and living on a travelling state-sponsored commune. But I have questions...

Do I need a return plane ticket from Argentina for them to let me in? Is there any way I can prove that I will be leaving the country by bus thus negating the need for a return ticket? Is there anything I need to know regarding travel in any of these countries?

Is it possible to stay longer than 90 days in Brazil if I receive a sponsorship or something similar?

Additionally, any tips of things to do or see as I embark on this lengthy journey northwards, probably along the coast? I'm into leftist politics, music, nature, art and weirdness.

You can definitely stay longer than ninety days in Brazil, you can stay up to 180 days in any 365 day period. To do so, you must visit the Federal Police a few days before your visa expires (this is to insure that if they send you off to do silly bureaucratic things, you have enough time to complete them before the expiration date). You will need to complete some forms, and pay a fee to the Banco do Brasil, and Bob's your uncle, an additional 90 days.
Don't know about Argentina.
Recife is the bomb, though.

Well, hell, if you're still reading this. You can overstay your visa, maybe. I did.

When you're in Brazil, get a photocopy of your passport, and get it notarized by a lawyer. Make it official. Then never show your passport to anyone. When you leave the country, the most you will be fined is R$800, or maybe nothing. If you need more info, mail me, spent a lot of a time in the northeast.
