Midwife in DFW?

My little sister is pregnant! She lives in Fort Worth, Texas and has not had any luck finding a birthing center or a midwife. Anyone out there in DFW have recommendations? Thanks!

she can go to the "finding your tribe" section of mothering.com and ask in the Texas/NM section, that's how I found my doula in Houston.

Another option would be asking on the forums at altdotlife.com

Who does her doctor recommend?

gjc, that question betrays sort of an ignorance about why a woman would want a birthing center or midwife.

I second the mothering.com forums recommendation, and also would recommend checking out the naturalbirth livejournal community.

There is one birthing center located on Lovers Lane that is said to be quite good, and another one very close to Baylor Hospital, which is nice if she would like the peace of mind that comes along with having a facility like that close by in case of emergency.

We had our son at Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital. It was a great experience (going back 17 years, but still...)

(...and I see you're looking for a "birthing center" which is probably different from "hospital"...)

A Superpages search for "midwife" yields a few results in the downtown hospital area and near Northeast Mall.

Thanks so much!! This is my first time to be an auntie and I live far away. BTW her doctor told her that the local demand didn't support Austin or California style births!! I will pass all this info along. Once again, Y'all are wonderful!!

She would also probably find it helpful to check out the Association of Texas Midwives, the state organization of licensed midwives -- their website has a "find a midwife" function.
