old apple display and windows

Do a DVI to ADC adapter is enough to run an oldish apple display with a windows pc ?

Someone gave me an old 22 inch Apple display. It uses the infamous ADC connector, i plan on using it with a windows box. To do so i have to buy a DVI to ADC adapter.
The problem is that the adapter is quite expensive and nowhere it mentions compatibility with a windows machine even though in theory it's just a DVI to ADC converter and it should work.
I'd like to make sure that the connector is the only problem barring me from using the display with my pc or if something else could come up, like driver conflict and what not.
I believe the display to be the M8149, i plan on plugging it on a geforce 5600, part of a pc running windows xp pro sp2.

Electrically, the ADC is the same as your normal displays. It just carries data (usb et al) and power (48V @ some insane amperage) as well.

The ADC to DVI adapter will work, provided the display works.

yes, it works.

i've done exactly that

just make sure you get the one you linked to, and not the unpowered version.
