How can I edit playlists on my Sony Phone?

Playlist editing on a Sony Erricsson W810i phone? I've really been enjoying this phone as a phone, but I recently have realized it could come in handy as a MP3 player. One thing is irking me and I'm not having any luck with google. So I've come here with hopes high!

So far, it seems like the only was to create a playlist is on the phone itself, by navigating through Artist\Allbum\Track levels and tagging or checking off, a song, or album. This is rather inelegant, and I found myself connecting to my PC and exploring the folder structure in hopes that I could find the playlist file that I assume exists, and mimic it's format to my advantage. No luck there.

I've been googling for about 30 minutes, and I'm usually pretty good at the internet....no luck can I find.

Short of exploiting the artist tags to my benefit (i.e. using a playlist name as the artist name) does anyone know a way I can edit playlists on a PC without having to use the phone interface? Some previous thread refer to an iTUnes plugin, and loathe as I am to install iTunes for this purpose, it might be easier than doing it on the phone.

I have a W300i and a W600i, and both have the same horrible painful playlist clunkiness. I have just used the phone interface when I have a lot of time to kill.
It would also be nice to either be able to reorder album tracks in the phone, or atleast have the tracks not list alphabetical but by track number.

Response by poster: Yeah, I fear I'm out of luck with this. The only other idea I had was to make a copy on my PC of say, a folder full of mixed artists' stuff that I wanted on a playlist, and then do a batch tag edit and change the "artist" field to be "playlist X" and then copy THAT copy of the folder up. I'd sorta have a playlist in that if I picked all the stuff by the artist "playlist x" I'd be sort of loading a playlist.

I had a w810i and had the same problem. I'm pretty sure there's no solution, bar the one you mentioned involving changing the artist tags before loading the mp3s. It's pretty stupid considering it's branded as a "Walkman phone", but the playlist editing functionality sucks.

These phones should support m3u playlists. You can create an m3u file on the PC with something like Exact Audio Copy when you rip a CD, or with a simple utility like m3uEdit. On my phone I put the m3u in the same folder as the relevant tracks, so there's no problem with paths.
