How do I mount a laptop to my treadmill?

What's the best way to mount a laptop to a Landice L7 Treadmill, for use while walking?

Previously I had a True 500 treadmill, and I mounted a laptop by building a custom wooden shelf. This (obviously) presented some problems, and shortened the lives of the laptops that sat on the shelf, but was great for my fitness regimen.

Since the original experiment was such a success, I want to do it right this time. But what is right?

Was your wooden shelf attached to the treadmill? I can imagine that there would have to be an inordinate amount of foam rubber needed to insulate the laptop from the vibrations. Is there a way that you could build something that sits in front of the treadmill that would house the laptop with a wired(less) keyboard with integrated trackpad that would control it?

Have a flat metal shelf welded onto tube about 1.5m that extends down to the floor. Weld this onto a flat base. Stick this in front of the tread, set the laptop on that. At the same time, have another piece of metal bent that can act as a shelf for keyboard, screw that right onto the L7 reading rack.

Response by poster: The wooden shelf was attached directly to the treadmill, yes. And there wasn't even foam rubber.

I really like the idea of using an external keyboard/trackpad to make it easier to get the placement sane.
