Is there any way Harbhajan Singh has a lot of hair under his turban?
The question has been bugging me this whole summer. I realise he might not like the look of an oldskool Bishen Bedi turban and he wants to look like a badass in a LA Raiders bandana.
I'm not really an expert on this but that's the style of turban that young Sikhs wear so it's not really untraditional per se. I've seen lots of Sikh boys wearing their hair like that. I'm not really sure what the age is at which Sikhs are supposed to graduate to the full turban but I'm sure someone will be along to clarify in a moment. posted by peacheater at 7:50 PM on February 25, 2008
I believe it is called a joodi. posted by peacheater at 7:52 PM on February 25, 2008
Good gravy. That's a lot of hair! How does he do it? posted by uncanny hengeman at 8:19 PM on February 25, 2008
I know a Sikh guy who was persuaded to let his hair down for Halloween, and it went down to his waist. All you could see when he had it up was a fist-sized ball. I imagine that you just get really, really good at putting it up after a while. posted by showbiz_liz at 8:38 PM on February 25, 2008
Harbhajan's turban is called a patka or keski. Even Bishan Bedi type turbans have one of these under it.
Thanks everyone. No one really answered my questions…... although I guess showbiz_liz answered one of them by way of example.
I'm incredulous that he can hide so much hair!
And my memory slowly came back to me these last few days. Bishen Bedi possibly played in a patka as well. Not a badass LA Raiders one, but possibly not a turban like the one I linked. posted by uncanny hengeman at 8:43 PM on February 26, 2008
