Make w.bloggar play nice with Wordpress categories?

New blog at Wordpress.com. Would like to use w.bloggar as my desktop editor for posts. Everything's configured properly and looking great, except for this error I get when I start up w.bloggar: "w.bloggar: 401 / Your blog server returned the following error message: / Sorry, you must be able to edit posts on this blog in order to view categories." I'm sure there's a simple explanation, but googling and FAQ digging turn up nothing. What gives?

I have a feeling you need to own your own domain to use w.bloggar. Try configuring Scribefire on your Wordpress.com blog, and if that doesn't work, then you'll likely need to edit on the site itself.

Try what this post at the Wordpress Support Forums says.

Response by poster: To answer both of you at once, I've searched all through the Wordpress Support Forums (I actually found that post as well, Memo), and plently of people are using it to post to the hosted version of Wordpress. My first impression was that I'd have to find somewhere to host the blog myself if I wanted to use this software, but that doesn't seem to be the case. At this point, w.bloggar just plain doesn't want to give me access to categories.

Best answer: I just tried out w.blogger 4.03 portable edition and the category function worked. Maybe you could try that? The portable edition has the advantage that you can edit the categs.xml as last resource for adding categories.

Response by poster: @Memo: Hmmm, that sounds promising -- I'll have to take a look at that when I get home from work. Might as well have the app with me on a USB key all the time, anyhow. You get best answer status! Although if anyone else wants to chime in, I'm still open to options/fixes. Cheers.
