Any useful tools for deconstructing a website?

Is there software similar to WriteMaps that will allow me to develop a visual sitemap of an existing website while annotating ideas and bugs as I go?

I'd like to deconstruct an existing website that has not been mapped out. I need to use what I find as a teaching and research tool as opposed to generating an XML file for search engines. WriteMaps is a great start but at the moment it's too buggy and slow for the amount of content I need to add.

I always develop sitemaps in Excel. Easy to do and explain, and you can send to other people for comments / editing.
