Public Darkroom?

Is there a sort of public-access darkroom in the greater Los Angeles area?

I'm thinking of a place equipped with enlargers, chemicals, and developing rooms where, for a monthly fee, you could develop your photos if you brought your own paper.

I'm not looking for a community college class...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!

I was going to suggest community colleges, because most have darkrooms that you can rent usage of on a monthly basis. You need to talk to the head of the departments, though.

Try searching "community darkroom" on Google. That's not meant to be snarky, but just a suggestion for terms. I got a few hits, but I'm not from LA, so I don't know what's what. But that's what you are looking for. Maybe others will have more specific answers for you.

Google results for darkroom rental los angeles

This article is a couple years old, but it might be promising.

And here's a by-the-hour lab.

you might want to talk to one of the photography instructors at a place like art center college of design. just walk into their color darkroom and chat one up. reason I say this is that some darkrooms suck and others rock. they should be able to point out a kickin' one for you. a similar approach should work with all other college darkrooms.

Lots of public libraries have darkrooms you can use if you are a member or local resident. Huntsville, Alabama has two, so I'm sure there are some in LA.
