How do i keep my headset from causing feedback in Ventrilo? If someone else is talking while i have my push-to-talk button down, i seem to send their voice right back to them, like if i had a microphone up to a set of speakers.

I use Ventrilo for voice chat while i play World of Warcraft. I know its frustrating when other people do not use a headset, because when i talk, if they have their push-to-talk (hereafter ptt) button down, i end up hearing myself from their speakers too. when several people try and talk at once it gets quite unintelligible.

I purchased headphones a while ago to alleviate this problem. For some reason however, if someone talks while my ptt button is pushed, it causes the sound that should be going to my ears, to also go back through the microphone.

How can i stop this feedback?

Which input source do you have selected for recording? (Double click the volume icon, Options -> Properties, Mixer device: Input, OK). You should have the checkbox under Mic selected. It's possible you have the output of the sound card selected (mine is called "Stereo Mix"), which would record anything you normally hear out of the sound card.

When my husband got feedback of this nature, it's because he had the sound turned on in the game, but turned down. If he turned game sound volume up, or actually disabled it, the Vent feedback stopped.

I should have specified that too. When i built my PC i got a motherboard with a built-in sound card, and i also put in my soundblaster audigy. I have my speakers connected to the audigy card, and my headset plugged into the on-board card.

I'll try out the in-game volume suggestion and see if that helps.
