Looking for book title/author...

What is the title/author of this book - about an archaeologist and his daughter....?

This has been bugging me for over a year now. I read this book 15 or 20 years ago. It was about an archaeologist who brings his daughter on a dig, and he ends up getting killed by a falling object. She must now find her way out of the jungle to find help (not sure why they were alone). She ends up meeting one of the indiginous people, and they teach each other their languages, etc.
