Obama Popularity

Why is Obama so popular? I don't see very much experience and don't think he has the charisma? Any thoughts?

This post was deleted for the following reason: this is not what askme is for. chatty "poll the audience" questions without a problem to be solved. -- jessamyn

He knows how to speak in such a way that he inspires hope.

(And I am a Republican who isn't going to vote for him because I don't agree with him on a lot.)

Yeah, I have the thought that this is textbook chatfilter and should be deleted pronto. How is this an answerable question?

I hear the not enough experience argument quite often. If you had spent 16 years as a football coach 12 in the NCAA and 4 as an assistant in the NFL would you consider that person experienced? I think for just about anything else, 16 years is enough.

If you want a left-of-center President who isn't Clinton, he's basically your only choice now.

With only 16 years of swimming in the crap that is Washington politics, there's still a chance to wash the shit smell out?

Most people find him quite charismatic. YMMV.

Granted that this is an honest question, check out this comment by Miko in yesterday's thread. Obama is a lot more than fancy speechifying. In short, Obama is popular because he inspires people, he has led a life of public service in which he has shown integrity, and he has a good grasp of policy and politics, which he has demonstrated in the US and Illinois Senate.

One part of the larger picture, he's the only candidate to support open systems.

8 years of the Bush Administration is bound to make anyone look good.
