What windows app will allow me to take an AVI or MOV file and .SUB or .SSA or other subtitle file and burn it onto a DVD+R or -R with the subtitles either burnt-in or generated by the dvd player?

Here's a guide that expalins it much better than I could:

AVI to DVD with switchable subtitles

Get avi2dvd here.

avi2dvd is a great program that basically does everything for you. I've never added subtitles with it, but I've always been impressed with its ease-of-use. Good luck!

The basic idea is that you need to convert the files into DVD-compatible MPEG files.

That site can describe the steps needed.
