Paradigm 7se speakers: fix or replace?

One of my beloved Paradigm 7se stereo speakers (circa 1985) has gone south. Woofer and tweeter are distorting, leading me to think it's a crossover issue. Should I get it fixed or start looking for new? Any suggestions for a good speaker under 400.00 per pair?

Could be your amp. A friend of mine had a similar problem with a pair of KEFs. First one channel then the other started distorting and he despaired that he'd have to send them in for repair. Then he bought a new receiver and it was fine.

15 years is pretty old. I bet the plastic/rubber/foam on the cones isn't as pliable as it once was.

And if you don't mind upping your price range a bit, these would be sweet.

Yes, if the cones are cracked you could also just put in new drivers. If the enclosures are good then it might be worth doing.
