Record Store near Los Angeles' Seventh Street Metro?

Is there a record store somewhere in downtown L.A., near the 7th St. metro stop? For various complicated reasons, I'm stuck in downtown and desperately need CDs!

I don't know anything about Los Angeles, and basically the only convenient places for me to go are on the red subway line. (What's happening is, I'm helping a family member who's in the hospital in L.A., and so I can only make very short trips on the subway--yet, I'll be here for nearly two weeks, and would love to see a record store in addition to my hotel room and the hospital).

I don't know anything about LA. But www.superpages.com does. It's just one place that has a nice map-based business/phonebook search. Maps.yahoo.com has a nice one, too.

It looks like there is a cluster of record stores (more in "Used & Rare CDs Tapes & Records" than in the "CDs Tapes & Records Retail" category) just a few blocks (about half a mile) SE of the 7th street metro station. They're all in the area between Broadway and Main and then a few blocks North and South on each side of 7th. Most of them have Spanish names.

This link to a location based search on Yahoo may or may not work for you (it might time out, not sure). It lists music stores by proximity to the 7th street metro station. Skip past the "sponsored businesses" at the top.

I know that Ritmo Latino is across the street from Grand Central Market, between 3rd and 4th on Broadway.

If you are up for a little walking, you could take the red line to Union Station, transfer to the gold line and take it to Pasadena, exit at Del Mar and walk (should't be more than 1 mile) down Del Mar to Lake Ave. There's a Tower records on the corner there.

Or you could take the red line to Hollywood/Vine, then walk south a couple of blocks to Sunset/Vine where you will find Amoeba Records. The Metro Rail/Bus trip planner may also be helpful to you.

I second the Amoeba suggestion, it's a very good store. plus you'll be able to actually walk a little in an interesting part of LA

As a dedicated LA strap-hanger and pedal-pusher, I second the Amoeba records in Hollyweird, but I'll have to say Old Town Pasadena is much prettier and nicer than Hollywood. Though, Amoeba is a *much* cooler record store than Tower.

Mta.net has almost all of your LA bus and train needs, if need be.
