Kayaking with Camera

I have a Canon Digital Rebel camera and I want to take it kayaking with me (along with other wet activities if possible). Any suggestions on products that will keep this thing dry and still usable? Or should I just keep it in a bag and take it out when I need it? Anything is welcome!

If price is no object, there are several housings for the Digital Rebel:

This is not a great idea. You can rig together something for rain protection, but you'll need to spend cash to get waterproof like you need.

Here's a soft-case that's not too expensive: Ewa-Marine U-A Underwater Housing

Or if you're feeling lucky, you can buy a small igloo cooler and keep it in there. Those things are pretty waterproof and they float.

How about the Aquapac SLR case? It's pretty cheap at $125

Also, can I just insure this camera?

Most insurance riders don't insure for preventable things like that. I know my laptop is screwed on a rider if it gets rained on.

Take it, break it. Then buy the 10d. You know you wanted it anyway.

Seriously, this is no place for such a camera. Buy a disposable camera and convert to digital later. Remember, the Rebel isn't built too strong. (I just bought a 10d instead of the Rebel, partly for that reason, and wouldn't take the 10d kayaking either.)

you can buy ready made waterproof digicams these days for about $100 at walmart, and spare your fancy camera the risks inherent in rafting, other than immersion.
