Help me get the pictures from my digital camera onto my Mac

I have a Canon Ixus 65 and I want to get the photos off the camera and onto my iPhoto-less Mac (10.4.10). I tried to go to Canon's website to download their Image Browser software but I can only find an update that works if you have a previous version of Image Browser on your computer. I don't have the discs that came with my camera and Image Browser is not installed. I refuse to believe I'm screwed.

Is there any way to download the full version of Canon's Image Browser? Or, alternatively, is there some (preferably free) software I could download that would allow me to get the photos from my camera onto my computer?

Best answer: try using Image Capture, it comes with os x and should be in your Applications directory.

Most digital cameras function as a removable drive when connected to your computer. Can you manually copy the photos onto your local drive?

OS X comes with an app called "Image Capture"

you should find it in "Applications"

it works well, i used to use it to get movies off my Canon before iPhoto was able to.

Take out the memory card and copy them off of that? You can get an SD card reader pretty cheap if you don't already have one.
