I got my girlfriend a fiddle for Xmas, which she's wanted for years. Now we're wondering what the best next steps in learning to play would be. She doesn't have any instrumental musical experience (just choir for several years) and I think I may have played the recorder back in elementary school ... maybe.
She's like to start with a book about the instrument in general. History, care & feeding, function of all the various parts, etc. If it's fiddle-specific (especially in terms of the history), that would be great, but it's not necessary.
She wants to start some lessons fairly soon too. Any recommendations for great fiddle instructors around Vancouver would be much appreciated. I know
Celtic Traditions offers fiddle instruction, but I have no idea if they're any good, well priced, etc.
I saw
this previous question, but it assumes that lessons won't be possible. Figure this is different enough to ask again. Thanks!
