Help me name and/or locate an episode of 'Davey and Goliath'.

Please tell me you remember an episode of Davey and Goliath where Davey steals a hypnotic, psychedelic toy from a friend and learns a valuable lesson in return.

The toy - possibly - was windmill-esque and gave its users fun by radiating weird colors and sound. It's been over twenty years since I saw the episode, but the toy still intrigues me. Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe some oddball drug I once took is just telling my brain that I watched it.

I just received a 32 episode box set for Jesusday and I don't think it's included, but I haven't given up hope. This needs to be resolved before I go towards the light and meet eternity. An episode name or mutually remembered synopsis will keep me from one day haunting the offices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

So I've just read through every episode's description at daveyandgoliath.org and saw nothing that matches my memory.

Thing is, I abso-hellfire-lutely *know* I was sitting in front of the TV one Sunday morning as a kid and saw Davey steal a windmill-shaped toy from a friend, then take it home (or possibly to a... treehouse?). Before he stole it, the toy gave off a mesmerizing array of colors and sound, causing those who played with it to have an almost orgasmic play experience. After Davey stole it, it wouldn't work properly. He then learned a lesson which has since been lost on me, but 'stealing is bad' would be the likely candidate.

Huh. All I can think of is the 1996 MADtv spoof "Davey and Son of Goliath," but that's a different kind of psychedelia all together. I don't suppose it could've been another parody, could it?

Nope. I remember it as being shown on a Sunday morning during a local program - this would've been in the early-mid 1980's. Definitely not a parody.

Aha! It wasn't Davey and Goliath at all, but its Baptist rival, Jot. The internets seem to be somewhat confused about which ran on The Children's Hour and which on Peppermint Place back in the day. I know I am. Perhaps they moved around.

Anyway, this is the episode you want.

Oh my. Oh my my my my my MY. Ladies and gentlemen, mumkin is the word.

It's funny how I can remember so many details correctly of a four minute something I saw maybe once when I was 7 - the theft, the toy's windmill shape, the hypnotic noises and lights/colors, the completely psychedelic nature of it all, the toy breaking, the *treehouse* even - and yet attribute it to the wrong source in my brain. I know it's because both Jot and Davey & Goliath were shown on the "Children's Hour", but still.

I didn't mention earlier that I lived in North Texas at the time, but I did, and "The Children's Hour with Bill Kelly" and "Peppermint Place" were both watched in my house on a regular basis. Thanks for your help, mumkin.

Yeah, when I found that episode of Jot I was mightily impressed with your recollection of it, item. Pretty spot on. I was a DFW kid too, watching those shows in the late 70's. I don't think I had a clear understanding at the time that they were religiously-affiliated programs, though in hindsight there's nothing subtle about them. I must've just been thick.
