Your local camera shop buys that camera for about what you can buy if for over the internets. For the extra $100 you pay you should expect excellent upfront and follow on service. They are hardly making money, but hopefully making a repeat customer. Lenses are about the same. If you want a deal, ask for a discount on filters, camera bags and other accessories. They get a huge mark-up on those. If you need accessories you can end up in almost the same place as an internet discounter but with a much better local service and support option, plus you support your local economy and help ensure that when you need a quick item that the camera shop is still there. They are disappearing fast.
