New Year's Eve tips for Portland newbies?

My husband and I will be in Portland on New Year's Eve. We aren't really sure what to do in the waning hours of 2007 -- and its our first time there. Google turns up the usual, but we trust the mefi collective wisdom has better suggestions. Us: thirty-ish, still like a party, still like a drink, looking for local flavor.

Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon?

For general Portland, Oregon suggestions: Peter Sagal of NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me was there last month. See the suggestions by the readers of his blog and Sagal's report afterward. Happy New Year!

The local Portland circus is pretty amazing. Lots of fun, great trapeze artist. Not sure if they have a NYEve show but if so I recommend it very highly!

Oops! Oregon, not Maine. Sorry.

You will need a livejournal account to post, but we have an lj group that's pretty good about announcing things like that, and you may have better luck asking there.

Just be warned that it can be pretty snarky, especially if you're new to the area or ask a very common question (vet/massage/tattoo/piercing/vegan recommendations especially).
