Social Phobia vs. The Internet!

I'm very much a casual MetaFilter user - I check the site at least once a day and will comment if something catches my eye. Sometimes if I feel like doing something wild and crazy I'll even post something myself. The thing is, I kinda want to be more of a poster and more of a community member, rather than just popping in every so often.
Basically what I want to know is this: How can I get into the habit of actually looking at links and making cool comments? And what are some ways of coming up with interesting FPPs myself?
