Out Of Sync With Firefox

My Firefox updated recently and now a dialog box pops up occasionally titled, "Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer." It says, "Please enter your username and password to continue." I have no username or password for Firefox. My computer is not on a network. I cancel out of this and continue, only to have it pop up again a short time later. As far as I can see, synchronization of bookmarks isn't in the help files. How do I disable this?

Best answer: You need to uninstall an add on. Click tools > Add ons > and find one that says foxmarks and click uninstall. Restart Firefox and you should be fine.

You google that phrase, discover that it's likely caused by an add-on you installed at some point, then disable the add-on.

I've gotten a message like that from when Firefox recently updated my del.icio.us bookmarking tool. I think you'd still follow the advice above about add-ons, I just wanted to chime in that it might be something other than foxmarks.

Could this be the reason?

Response by poster: I thought I'd googled this, but it was a MeFi search. Anyway--all fixed. Thanks. Funny though, I don't think I had installed the synchronization add-on. I have no use for it. Nonetheless, there it was.

Not that I want to get confrontational or anything, but, no, it mightn't.

Oops, didn't notice that the thing had "Foxmarks" in the title. Sorry 'bout that.

You might want to consider keeping (or reinstalling, if you already deleted it) the Foxmarks add-on. You might not need to sync your bookmarks between two computers, which is its primary function, but it has another useful feature, too: it will host a webpage with all your bookmarks on it, so you can access them from anywhere with Internet access.

Here are the URLs for the service:

my.foxmarks.com - regular version

my.foxmarks.com/m - mobile version
