Needed: Change Tray for 2008 Accord LX - Parts guys don't know what I'm talking about.

Remember me? So I got the Accord I was ogling, and it's the slickest ride I've ever had. Love it.

Anyway, when my wife and I were Accord shopping, we test drove an Accord EX (which is the upscale designation), but we ended up buying the Accord LX (not as fancy, but still plenty fancy for us).

When we drove the EX, it had a coin tray in the center console. Our LX is missing the tray, as I suspect, are all LX models. I can see where it would snap in to the console if I had one, but it's just not there.

Our previous three Accords all had coin trays, but this year begins a new design generation for the Accord line, and lots of things are different.

I've searched Ebay, the online Honda parts dealers, and I've called my dealership. Whenever I search or say "coin tray," they come back with "cup holder?" No.

I'd be thrilled to be shown an online source for the part, as it would almost certainly be cheaper online than at my dealer (who can't even find the part, let alone charge me for it).

Anyone? Bueller?

Tried the junkyards? 'Tis possible there's a totaled EX with a cherry coin tray you could pick up for a song.

Just to be clear, is it the "second lid" (covering the CD storage space) in this auction that you're looking for? Is it worth $87 to you?

I think you should try searching for console tray or console insert or something like that... it's possible they don't specifically consider it a coin tray.
Here's a whole 2007 console... I don't know.

Also known as a "trinket tray" I think.

Or coin pocket?

It might be easiest to actually go to the dealership rather than calling and trying to work it out verbally. The parts desk should be able to pull up a drawing of the area on their computer, so you can point at the thingie you want.

That's the way to do it.

Mumkin: That's an 07 Accord, and the older design generation. No good.

Ceri Richard: That search left me unclear as to what a Trinket Tray is, but I didn't see anything with coin-shaped spaces, so I don't think we're there yet.

As for the Ebay link, that's a good guess, but when the auction says, "Fits 2003 and up body style Accords," it really means "2003 to 2007 generation Accords."

Loiseau: Again, 2007. No good.

I think I didn't describe the doohickey very well. The part in question lives in the area of the center console that you might rest your arm on, under the lid. It has holes that resemble coin diameters, so that you could, for instance, put a stack of quarters in one of the holes, and the tray would keep them orderly.

Thanks for the answers so far! I've frequently thought that part of the problem must be that I'm shopping for a part intended for a car that's way too new for the distribution channels to have filled yet.

The parts desk should be able to pull up a drawing of the area on their computer, so you can point at the thingie you want. I may have to end up doing this in the end, but I'd rather not. Hopefully I'll find a hero here before it comes to that.

UPDATE: I just spoke again to my friendly Honda Dealership Parts Guy, and he went out to his new cars on the lot and took a look.

There is a small, sliding tray in the upper area of the arm rest compartment. It does not have coin holes (I mis-remembered that part). It will hold coins though, and my car should have come with one but didn't. The dealership is ordering one in for me, which they'll give to me to replace the one I didn't get with my car.

I guess this will have to be called a happy-enough ending.

Thanks, Hivemind!

For future reference, Majestic Honda's website has exploded diagrams of basically every part for most any Honda out there, and the cheapest prices I've been able to find on genuine OEM parts.

I have no connection to them other than being a satisfied customer on several occasions.

Might as well make a link for Majestic Honda. Too bad you can't select 2008 models there yet.
