Ideas for temporary empty nesters on Christmas morning in Charlotte, NC?

It turns out that Mrs. Phrits and I will have none of our various kids on Christmas morning. My folks live here in town and we'll be going over later in the day for a full dinner with at least four of our kids, etc. For various reasons, the obvious answer of "hey, go to church you heathen" isn't the right one. We cook, but would rather not have to deal with dishes. We love our occasional weekend mornings alone where we eventually get up, drain the dogs, make coffee, and just hang out, but I feel like we should do something a little more festive. Breakfast out would work, but she doesn't eat Chinese...

If the weather's not too cold and you're into that sort of thing, maybe a hike or a walk? Crowders Mountain is a quick hike that will get your appetite up for dinner. Or, staying in town, you could take a stroll in Freedom Park or one of the greenways.

If you want breakfast out, try some of the hotel restaurants.

How are you folks sorted for Jewish delis in your neck of the woods? We used to do that - breakfast or lunch at the Carnegie or whatever. Challah french toast kicks ass.

Crowder's Mountain is a blast! Might be a nice view on a Christmas morning. It is a bit steep for a non-hiker, though.

The Westin is having a Christmas buffet, but I'm not sure what time it starts.

You could go ice skating at the temporary rink at The Green, if it's open. (It may not be, given the proponderence of non-heathens in town, though.)

If you're feeling particularly charitable, you could call the Salvation Army, Crisis Assistance Ministry or the Charlotte Rescue Mission and see if they need any help with Christmas morning activities?

Oh, and I made Challah french toast with my leftover braid from Hannukah. Never had better. (I'm a pretty ecumenical atheist, particularly when it comes to food.)
