[RealityTVFilter] Just finished watching an episode of WB Superstars. Is this show for real? Are they actors? What's the deal?

Yes. No. They let the bad singers advance and tell them they're good.

Apparently the producers told the audience that the singers were terminally ill so that they'd cheer. That just seems to scream bad taste. But hey, it's The WB.

This is the funniest show on TV. They say the contestants aren't actors, but some of them are so deluded that it seems like they couldn't possibly be for real.

I agree -- some of them just have to be "ringers" or plants.

I don't know if it's "real" or not (and how much "reality television" really is?) but it's the cruellest show on TV, and I have a really, really hard time watching it.

When my girlfriend watches it, I find myself getting up and pacing around the room, walking to different rooms to find and pay attention to my cat, going out to smoke, and so on.

Check out Reality News Online for more info on these shows. I'm somewhat ashamed to admit I read their recaps of some shows, even though I don't watch them. Yeah, yeah, that's like saying I've tried marijuana but didn't inhale, but so be it. But really, for many of these shows their entire entertainment value can be distilled into a few short sentences, and you don't have to endure the tedium of watching the real thing.
For the record, I do enjoy Survivor and Amazing Race, but that's about it.

interrobang: i feel EXACTLY the same way. sure, i can see umpteen hundreds of ppl get slaughtered in say, "Braveheart" without batting an eye, but shows like this drive me BONKERS. thank god for PC games ;)

Now that the show is over [I didn't see every episode, but the couple I did see were downright captivating] I must say that their winner, the so-called "worst singer," really wasn't as bad as a couple of the others, and I think she was chosen largely because she was a kind-of-bad singer who... well... you tell me.
