What kind of markers did I have when I was kid?

My first memory is fighting with my twin brother over a set of markers. I'm trying to figure out what kind of markers they were, and I'm going crazy! They were about four inches long and flat-- the cross section would be about 1 inch by 1/2 inch. The bodies were mostly black. They were in a set of two or three tiers, somewhere around 20 colors.

I had always thought they were Chartpaks, but a google search turns up only their long, round Ad Markers. I remember using them in 1988, but they could have been bought anywhere from 1983 to 1988.

I'm not the OP, but I remember playing with these! It's funny how memory-inducing a picture can be.

Response by poster: the Faber Castell is the right shape, but I'm pretty sure that's not it... Somehow I remember a larger sans-serif font. I'm going to ask my mom if she remembers tomorrow, but somehow I doubt it.

Were they markers, or highlighters? On the chance they're highlighters, there are eleventeen gazillion flat highlighters with black bodies ;) A few (first three with sans-serif fonts): link link link link.

faber castell used to have a different font. it was kind of chunky, and each letter was sort of shaped like an inverted pyramid. a little like this but without the stupid creepy drippies.

when i was a kid, faber castells came in two shapes- rounded rectangles like the ones i linked above, and sometimes they were flat and sort of pyramiddy shaped (they flared from the butt end so they were widest where the cap attached, then tapered to the end of the cap), and the marker part was coloured, the cap and font were black.
i was really into faber castells in the mid 80s.
