Question: Seattle Eye Doctors?

Hi,
Looking for an eye doctor in Seattle. Somebody who'll give me the skinny on whether I'm a good candidate for Lasik, without trying to push me into anything.

Lots of good lasik threads here on AskMeFi, not so many threads on eye doctors in Seattle. Am I even going the right route? Should I just go straight to a good Lasik doctor? I fear being pitched something that's not right for me.

I am not in Seattle, but I can tell you that there are very clear-cut criteria for who makes a good Lasik candidate and who does not. I worked for an optometrist for 5 years and we were not affiliated with any Lasik doctors, so we always gave our patients an honest assessment of whether they were a good candidate for Lasik. My advice would be to find a regular optometrist who is not affiliated with a Lasik service. A regular, run-of-the-mill optometrist who has been practicing for several years. That's your best bet for an honest and thorough assessment of your situation.

I had my eyes zapped at Lomas Eye and, all cliches aside, it was the best money I've spent. The consultation was free and easy and they showed me all the data they collected (corneal thickness, pupil diameter, etc.) and discussed how each contributed to the likely outcome.

Been a patient of Dr. Kenneth Morton in Bellevue for years. He's smart, experienced and will tell you the truth.

About 5 years ago, I used to go see Dr. Lisa Bursett, in the U-district. I don't know anything about her thoughts about lasik, but I liked her a lot as an optometrist.

I should mention I'm in Capitol Hill. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I can (and have before) recommend Dr. Goo at Woodlawn Optical. I haven't asked him about Lasik, as it wouldn't work for me, but he's a _great_ eye doctor.

Just a follow up, I took leahwrenn's suggestion based solely on geography (I'm closer to the U-District than Woodlawn or Bellevue). Had a great experience -- she was very patient with my questions, and had plenty of knowledge about the pros/cons/risks involved with Lasik, and could let me know whether I'm a probable candidate (I am).

She's an optometrist, not an ophthalmologist, but for my needs that's just fine.

Thanks MeFi!
