I am unable to find a picture of someone with their hand spread out down an ostrich's throat.

Before you turn away in disgust, you must know that this is by no means some horrible sordid bird neck porn I'm looking for, it is totally on the up and up. My (admittedly dim) recollection has it in National Geographic or something like that, illustrating the marvelous throat flexibility of the ostrich. It's a picture of a guy with his hand spread out an ostrich neck so you can see the fingers and thumb and stuff - and the ostrich doesn't seem to mind that much.

This remembered picture was the basis recently of some casual remarks to a friend at the pub, immediately and vociferously disbelieved. Conjecturing that such a classic image would be all over the Web, and this being the future, I was able to produce my pocket Internet and google on the spot. I was sure faith in my wisdom would be restored in a few seconds, but to my amazement queries proved fruitless, and to this day certain parties remain mocking and skeptical, and my very sanity is now possibly called into question.

Stricken, I lurch forth in search of aid. I am in desperate need of corroboration or refutation of my assertions.

Closest I could find. Google was spectacularly unhelpful. Just about any query gets porn these days.

My question would be how the man (with the hand) got his hand past the beak. I'm not sure an ostrich's mouth is large enough to accept a man's hand.

I also tried emu queries, but no luck.

My memory is fuzzy but I swear there is a shot just like the one you described in one of The Guinness Books of World Records from the early '90s.

I'm remembering the guy in the shot as being in need of a haircut.

I remember this shot too... are you sure it was NG? I'm remembering it as more of a childrens publication.. .Zoobooks maybe?

I, too, searched for ostriches, emus, throats and necks, to no avail. Are you sure this actually happened? One gets some very strange image results searching for this. :)

I remember this exact photo too. I remember it being taken on a ranch of some sort. Maybe that will help.

Thanks to the new archive of Life magazine by Google! It has to be this guy, even if it isn't this specific group of photos showing a man feeding an ostrich eggs and marveling at the resulting bulges in its neck. This guy just looks way too obsessed and enthusiastic about this ostrich.

But then again, I guess I can't talk.
