Army Filter: Calling all 25B's

I'm about to reenlist and reclass as 25B - SYSOP analyst. I probably qualify to skip advanced individual training at the army signal school. should i?

I'm former active duty ARMYand my service has been up for 4 years now. I'm contemplating reenlisting and reclassing to 25B - SYSOP. With my current civilian position, I could prolly be exempted from school. I know someone who did that and I have access to the same recruiter. But being allowed to skip the school doesn't mean that I know everything taught there. Anyone out there been to the 25B school? Can you give me details of the life and what you learned exactly? Do you use the skills you learned in a civilian field? all responses are welcome. i already know that school for reclass is different. I basically want to know if going to this school will benefit me in my civilian life. does it prepare you for cert examinations? Can the experience help me in my persuit of a better job? second question: IT professionals and manager types, how do you look at Army Signal school grads?

Unless I am mistaken, you'll be stationed at Fort Gordon. (I was stationed there in '00 for ait as 25c.) Base life is okay. Standard fare. The schooling is lame on the one hand in that it's incredibly basic and on the other hand the methodology being taught puts everyone on the same page — in the Army.

Outside, other than for private sector government opps and support, I am hard-pressed to imagine how this could benefit a person professionally, but though IT the direction of my career may be different than yours. I tend to work with with start-ups and "first adoptees."

The school is mostly tedious but good experience, and great for making the re-adjust back to military life, I'd imagine.

What I don't understand is why you would want to skip it? Just because it's boring? Tough? What is the advantage?

got a 2 year old and an active duty wife at Jackson. I'm looking to gain more IT experience, but i don't wanna waste 5 months without my family if I'm going to come out dumber on the other side. if there's no advantage to going to the school, I'd just as well use my hook up and skip the school. though, i wouldn't mind the vacation from the real world. Gordon is only an hour from jackson, so if prior service privileges are what i remember, i guess i could come home on the weekends. thanks for the words.

I was a 74F back in the beginning of the 80's. I don't know anything about the 25B course directly, but Army IT during my time was through enough that I learned how to program COBOL in under 30 days. I would not recommend skipping training, as the SOP for the Army (givien security, etc.) may be vastly different than at a corporate site.
