I was using this page to create a rough translation, but then I scrolled down and realized it already had the lyrics in creole and english.

Am confused. Are you asking for details about the events and people in the song? 'Cos yeah, there's an English translation of the lyrics at driveler's link.

If you're asking for an explication of Cape Verdean politics and history, as synopsized in Mayra Andrade's Dimokransa, I suspect that's a bit beyond the scope of AskMe and more into buy-a-book territory.
