What do students wear to your college / university?

What do students wear everyday to your college?
Is there an unofficial dress code in your school?
Do girls and guys dress at the same level?
Are jeans and a t shirt the norm or do people dress up or down?

I went to the University of Pittsburgh - a relatively standard large, urban four-year school. There was nothing like an unofficial code; mostly jeans/t-shirts but plenty of pajamas, hotpants, sweats, khakis, dress shirts, studded leather jackets, you name it. Not a lot of ties or suits, outside of law students and people who had job fairs or interviews later in the day. Girls dressed a little nicer than guys, but not by a particularly huge margin.

1) Everything, and sometimes nothing.
2) No.
3) If you mean formality, then yes - they both dressed at a level of almost total informality. I attended class in pajamas, as did many of my peers. First year students, as well as more mature adult students, didn't really follow this, though.
4) Yup, jeans and Ts were basically the norm, probably because they were low-maintenance.

Here it runs from pajamas to suits, but jeans and a t-shirt is typical. People often dress up for presentations or interviews, and dress down for early morning classes (roll out of bed and go to class).

1) ruffles, white blouses, funny hats, red noses, lots of makeup.
2) No but no one really wants to be THAT GUY who decided to not wear a water flower and then get squirted in the eye all day long.
3) Pretty much though the gals who climb the ropes and swing down wear a lot of skin tight things.
4) Only when visitors come around.

Girls tend to favor Nike Tempo running shorts. In the warmer months these were worn with Rainbow or Reef flip flops. They are now paired with black leggings and/or Ugg boots. A sorority t-shirt or Patagonia or Mountain Hard Wear fleece pullover and a North Face backpack usually completes the outfit.

Preppy. Nantucket red shorts/pants. Sometimes coat and tie. Penny loafers with no socks. I hate the "dress code" here. Oh. And north face. Actually, any outdoors company that sells wildly expensive jackets and fleeces will do. Marmot, Patagonia, etc.

This is not what AskMetaFilter is for.

From yeara's profile:

Occupation: Soon-to-be-student

Maybe she's going to college soon and just wants to be able to fit in better.

Also, what AGW said.

Everyone at Tulane dresses really casually. In fact, the girls who get the most dressed up to go out usually looked the sloppiest during the day. I generally wore tshirts and jeans. Everyone wears flip flops or sneakers.

Autarky, where did/do you go to school? I'm guessing the NorthEast?
