Question: Smart movie recommendation sites

Need help finding a movie recommendation site where the user enters several favorite movie titles, and the site returns results based on other users entering those same movie titles...

I remember a web site a couple of years back that after entering some movie titles, a graphic would come up (can't remember if it was flash based) that would show recommended movie titles based on those entries... the titles would be shown in a spider-web-like format. If that site doesn't exist anymore; are there any sites out there that give recommendations based on other people's interests in the same movies?

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but Amazon (and Netflix, though you have to sign up for that) have fairly good recommendation engines.

It's worthwhile to check out Movielens. Not only is it free & without ads, you get the immense thrill of helping out people who research recommendation engines.

(Ok, so maybe immense thrill is an overstatement, but their research has helped me out at work and so I'm a little biased)

Are you referring to criticker perchance? There was a post about it here one time, but I think it was taken down as self-promotion.

Not sure if this is the same site you're talking about, but there used to be one called moviecritic.com where you rated movies on a scale and it predicted which movies you would like (and how much you would like them) based on others' ratings.

(The actual url doesn't seem to work anymore but here is is on the Wayback Machine around the time I last used it *nostalgia*)

Flixster does that for me. Once you have friends and your own ratings inputted, it can give you 50 recommended movies based on the movies you chose (and what other people with the same interests chose), etc.

The recommendation system is a learning system - so you may find many annoying recommendations too. Your mileage may vary.

Just for fun, there's Google Sets. You put in a few items, it "predicts" the rest.
Astonishingly, the movie equivalent is movie-map.com!

I think you are thinking of Gnovies - an offshoot of Music Map (aka Gnoosic).
