Electronic Drumkits

Electronic Drumkits: anyone have any recommendations or experience with buying? Are the rubber-pad sets in the $1000 range worth a damn, or should I save up for one of the $4K mesh-pad sets? The use of my prospective drumkit will be strictly recreation/practice playing, not stage or studio use.

I have a friend who has had a few different sets and is pretty happy with them. I dont know too much about the actual feel, as I am not a drummer, but the main cost is often the module that you plug the pads into. It is similar to a midi module, only it has a series of plugs from triggering devices (the actual drums). If you are mechanically inclined, there are cheap trigger options which would free up a considerable amount of money for a higher quality module.

Other than that, if you have a guitar center in your area, they usually have a couple sets out for trying, which will probably answer the look and feel questions better than anything.

Mesh pads, ohhhhh mesh pads mmmmmmm. Drool.

The feel is amazing. If you have an apartment but want to practice enough to be neil pert, they are the quietest option and you put headphones on and sound like you are making TONS of noise. I played some in a store and fell in love.
