Scrabble and Poker for OSX
June 1, 2004 1:17 PM   RSS feed for this thread Subscribe

Games for OS X: I'm looking for a good Scrabble clone and a poker game with quality AI. I've Googled and rooted around, but am now looking for trusted recommendations. Anyone? Will I get best results simply playing online?

I should mention that my preferred poker game is Hold 'Em, since that's what I play on the weekends with the boys, but am willing to be flexible on that for the right game.

This unfortunately falls under self-promotion, but my employer makes a Scrabble game for OS X called X-Words Deluxe. We also make a game that's a cross between Scrabble and Poker called CrossCards, which might interest you since you mention both games.

The last *official* Scrabble game for the MacOS was a port of the Hasbro PC game which came out around 2001. It's Classic-only, but it was pretty solid. Amazon appears to be out of stock, and if you see a blue boxed game, that's for OS 7 and the chances of it working properly at this point are minimal.

For full-out poker games, the best one I've seen for OS X is iPoker - except I wasn't overly impressed with the Texas Hold'em. If you're going to play online, I found PokerRoom to be very Mac-friendly.
