Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows - Fifa 2008 thinks there are two controllers connected but I only have one! Help!?

I am running Fifa 2008 on my PC and have an xbox 360 receiver for Windows with a single xbox 360 controller.

Problem is when I try to move between menu items it will jump 2 items for every press of the button and then when i chose which side to play, i notice that Fifa 08 thinks I am running 2 controllers (red and blue)

Am I the only one who has this problem? Whats the story? how do I fix it?

I've used a joystick adapter that made it look like I had two joysticks, and the second ghost joystick would mess some games up. I disabled the second joystick device in Device Manager (right click, pick Disable) and things worked fine.

You are not the only one (albeit a 360 console, not a PC). I could only postulate. Well, you could work to get on a first-name-basis with Casper.
