What movies should I put in my Netflix queue?

I am finally nearing the end of my Netflix queue after the initial adding frenzy when I first signed up. I would like to build it up again but with the suggestions of others. What are some of your favorite movies of all time? Please give reasons why. I'm pretty opened minded to almost any type of movie.

This post was deleted for the following reason: chatfilter. "What's your favorite x" without restrictions isn't really what this place is here for. -- cortex

I'll give you some directors:

Akira Kurosawa
Jean-Luc Godard
Werner Herzog
Federico Fellini
Wong Kar-Wai

the movies tend to be a bit intellecutal... so if you're looking for something more pedestrian, just rent The Notebook.

Perusing my returned netflixes....i wouldnt say they are my favorites of all time but...they're good. :-P

Pan's Labyrinth is pretty good.

Just saw a documentary called Hell House. Its about a group of church peoples who put together this elaborate Halloween haunted house that warns against the perils of sin. It was pretty interesting.

Bad Boy Bubby is sort of an Australian answer to Being There

Triplets of Belleville is really interesting. Animated and french. The soundtrack is fun.

Grey Gardens is absolutely fascinating to watch.

Response by poster: Mr. Crazyhorse, Akira Kurosawa is my favorite director of all time. I generally sway more towards intellectual films, so I will definitely look into the other directors you listed. Thanks.

I'll throw out some choices off the top of my head (one I am notr sure they have):

Niagara, Niagara (cool movie about a girl with Turets (sp) - Robin Tunney and the kid from E.T.)
Eversmile, NJ (rare Daniel Day Lewis movie about a traveling dentist in South Africa, I think?)
Dangerous Beauty - an unexpectedly good movie that has had recent Netflix attention because it was one of the first movies they streamed.

I'll list some directors too, it's easier -

Ingmar Bergman
Jacques Audiard
Lukas Moodysson
Rachid Bouchareb
Lars Von Trier
Jean Luc & Philipe Dardenne
Paolo Sorrentino
Almodovar

European slant, because I live there.

some of his older stuff is Shakespearean in nature and a little dense, but well worth the payoff.

although I generally dislike Westerns there were a couple of directors that did them very well:

John Ford
Sergio Leone
Sam Peckinpah

The Wild Bunch would be a good place to start.

And another director I left off the first list is Terrence Malick, love his stuff.
