How to get my Vista machine to process MPEGs?

My Vista machine has some printer software installed on it that is interfering with any process involving film editing or conversion - can anyone give me some advice about how to fix this?

Whenever I try to run conversion/video editing software, I get an error message that reads "Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working", and the program I'm using either freezes up or closes. According to the troubleshooting thing that pops up, the problem is caused by "Intel ViiV Software Update for HP" and I am advised to go to the company's site to download an update.

When I go there, I am directed to an update that fixes "lmpgd10.ax or lmpgspl.ax errors", but when I try to download it I get the message "425 Can't open data connection". I emailed the HP site a week ago about this but have had no reply.

As you have probably realised, I don't know much about computers, so I have no idea what is wrong or how to fix it. I tried uninstalling the printer software, but have continued to have this problem. A quick fix is fine as I really, really need my video editing software more than my printer at the moment.

Thanks for your help.

The "425 Can't open data connection" is usually an indication of a too-tight firewall blocking either the control port for active FTP or the data port for passive FTP. Usually, it's the former.

If you're using IE, try checking "Use Passive FTP" under "Tools - Internet Options - Advanced". Or, if it's already checked, try unchecking it...
