Audiobook trading site
November 1, 2007 3:44 PM   RSS feed for this thread Subscribe

I have a few dozen audiobooks I've already listened to and/or don't want, and I'd like to find a site that will allow me to trade them for other audiobooks.

I don't have a tape-player anymore, so they'd have to be CDs. I've tried Zuna, but the selection is not great. I can't believe there isn't a bigger swap site for these things -- it seems like a no-brainer, but searching has turned up zilch. I'm fond of audiobooks, but not their prices. Any recommendations?

I THINK (though i'm not 100% sure) that paperbackswap.com lets you trade audiobooks too. The trade off rate might be different (each book "costs" 2 points instead of 1 or something like that). Not sure about the available selection, etc. though.

FWIW, I like PBS a LOT more than I liked zunafish. It's on a points system instead of a direct trade system, so the chance of actually getting what you want is a lot higher.

Yup, they do allow audiobooks. They cost 2 credits instead of 1.

As far as acquiring new audiobooks, check out audible.com..........Individually books can be $20-$35 (less on sale) but they have package deals where you are charged monthly rate which entitles you to so many credits a month. I did the $14/98 per month, one credit per month (1 credit=1 audiobook, even Atlas Shrugged Which I just downloaded and is very very very long, but there are several other plans to choose from) The first 3 months wer only $7.98 each. The downloads go to your computer, and you can then download to your Ipod if you have one. No tapes, no CD;s. The good thing about the audible package, you can cancel any time and rejoin later if you want, no obligation to stay a member for any period of time. As far as selling downloaded audiobooks, I don't think that would work, but you could share with friends who also have Ipods (I think, but not sure that you can download from your computer to friends' Ipods) and possibly share the cost of a membership among all of you who share the books?

Well, you might try selling them on half.com

Half.com is a great site for getting rid of your books, videos, dvd's, etc. Many times the price is less than half too! eBay bought them a long time ago, tried to get rid of half, but there is a very active selling site, really geared toward books/vids/dvd's... Often when looking for books in a book store, I'll write the isbn# and order it on half.

It is easy to get paid for your stuff... it is SUPER EASY to post them for sale. There is no monthly fee, and you can keep your stuff listed indefinitely.

Then you can use that money to buy another one on half.com.

Just my .02 :)

I've been a member of Ash Grove Audiobook Exchange for about 5 or more years. HIGHLY recommend it.

Ummm - one thing - don't forget your local library.

Many have extremely extensive audiobook collections. CD, tape and sometimes even MP3 CD's these days...
