Question: Word Only Offers "Save as Web Page"

MSWordFilter: Why is my only save option "Save as Web Page"? I'm running Mac OS X 10.4.10 and Word 2004 for Mac 11.3.8, and whenever I open a new document, the only save option in the "File" menu is "Save as Web Page..." - any idea why? As far as I know, the normal template loads on startup, and when I select "Save as Web Page" it allows me to change the format I save in, but the wording of the command keeps tripping me up.

When you open that file menu is there an arrow at the bottom of it that you can click to see more save options? Mine's set up the same way.

iconomy, if you mean the save dialog box, I know I can see more options from the dropdown menu. It's the wording on the file menu that irks me and I'd like to see changed, if possible.

Click on File, are there little arrows at the bottom of the menu? Click on these to expand the menu. You may only be seeing options on the menu that you have used previously. Also: open apple (squiggly symbol) +S

Word 2004 for Mac doesn't seem to have the "Expand" button, at least on the Mac I have available to me. So your other option is to change the menu. Under "Tools", select "Customize" and then "Customize Toolbars/Menus"

"Save" and "Save As..." are available under File of the "Commands" tab. You can then drag these commands to the File menu and place it where you want. Note that Word shows the File menu as a button on a tool bar during customization, this allows for you to change it. Here's another tutorial. Let me know if this is confusing.

ALongDecember, that's it! How many times have I customized the toolbar and not even realized that menu customization was in the same dialog box...thanks. I feel dumb.

No problem. Also note that you can use the same system to remove items from the menu bar, if "Save As Web Page" has no use.
